Metallic finishes

Metallic finishes

The metals we use for our collections are mainly brass and steel, which are always subjected to special treatments to prevent oxidation and ensure their durability. The execution of a surface finish has two purposes: the first one is to extend the product life and create a protective layer capable of making it more resistant to the use for which it is intended, and the other reason is for a purely aesthetic factor. In this section you will find several galvanic treatments (electrochemical deposition of a thin layer of metal or alloy) that we propose to be used on the components or collection items together with gold leaf finishes. The process of ornamental decoration with metal leaf, gold-like or silver-like, is a technique that dates back to Renaissance art and architecture, where it was used to enhance the details of some elements. A process that still includes the same steps today: our skilled master craftsmen spread the "missione", linseed oil glue, resin and pigments, using a soft brush and then, after a short drying, apply the small sheets on the artifact. Once the excess material has been removed, the decorated part is protected with transparent varnish. Finishing is possible on most of our collections. The treatment is not recommended where there are environmental conditions that can trigger oxidation processes (wet/humid zones or seaside areas) or where a high resistance to rubbing is required.

Each process is carried out according to the most stringent international regulations on waste management and in total respect for the environment.
