A line of table lamps with a decorative decal effect shagreen skin, known also as Galuchat. We have reproduced on ceramic che same effect of a leather made from the skin of rayfish which is covered with round, closely set, calcified papillae resembling small pearls. Shagreen is reputed to be one of the strongest hides in the world and has a pattern characteristic of the papillae at the spine area which distinguishes it as a unique and exquisite surface. Shagreen is dyed so only the flesh is colored leaving the small circles of calcified substance a beautiful pearl white color. The use of shagreen as a leather dates back centuries in the Asian culture. In the 20th century, in the Art Deco period of the late 1920's, shagreen became commercially popular from its beautiful applications on decorative objects and furniture.
